Despite profound changes in the global political climate since we launched last October, the Article 20 Network has stayed focused on building a sustainable organization capable of defending the freedom of peaceful assembly for the long-term.

The problems we are tackling - the criminalization of protest, militarization of our police, violence against protesters - have been entrenched for time immemorial and can only be overcome by an enduring effort.

As we face this long game, the Article 20 Network is encouraged and pleased to introduce you to four new members of our Board of Directors. Our Directors play a critical role in shaping the future of our young organization: our strategy, long-term vision and sustainability for the long fight.

Check out the experience they’re bringing to our fight for free assembly:

  • Daniel Simons: Legal counsel for Greenpeace International; advised activists and has been involved in a wide range of assembly-related legal proceedings around the world
  • Anthony Giancatarino: Fellow at the Movement Strategy Innovation Center working on transformative alignment around racial and economic justice; working with POWER for just transition across urban, rural, and suburban communities; formerly of the Center for Social Inclusion, fighting for racial equity in energy democracy, food equity, and transparency in governance.
  • Kristine Hansen: A practicing attorney in Washington, DC; worked for decades for the political and economic advancement of women and underserved populations through international development programs, legislative policy platforms, and leadership training; former aide to a United States Senator
  • Venus Devnani McClelland: Chief Operating Officer of Step Up, the national organization helping girls fulfill their potential by becoming confident, college-bound, and career-focused; decades of community action to further civil rights, local policy, and social justice for underrepresented communities

With this kind of people power joining the Article 20 Network, we are as ready as can be for our second year of new, high-impact initiatives.

Please join us in welcoming our new Directors to the movement to protect our first amendment right to free assembly.
